In April 2019, the Team Managers and Coaches at BSC took large group of swimmers on a swim camp to Sedbergh in Cumbria.

The four day camp, from Friday evening to Monday night was a fabulous success has now proved a ‘wanted’ and ‘to be a repeated’ event for the future! In the build up to camp, swimmers, parents and staff all contributed and work together fabulously to carry our fundraising activities for the swim camp.

Staff met together on numerous dates in addition to our already busy schedules, to make sure everything was fine tuned. Parents were fully informed throughout both the planning and the camp and it was completed with swimmers and parents  receiving their memory dvd of the event.

Safeguarding of the children and the staff was priority and the risk assessments that were carried out prior to camp, ensured that the whole party, comfortably accessed the planned timetable with no hiccups.

No stone was left unturned in the planning stages which meant the timetable ran like clockwork. Activities such as running, fitness, football, netball, rounders, quizes and the wonderful design and catwalk session all were greatly accepted.

Swimmers accessed both pool and land training sessions with enthusiasm and worked themselves hard. Staff followed the rota to ensure all areas were covered at all times and between us all walked thousands of miles each day to the different sites.

We were very lucky to enjoy the wonderful meals on offer, provided for us in Queens Hall at Sedbergh School and the manners and behaviour of the group were noticed and commented on.

Our camp activities concluded with a teams gala in the pool which was full of fun!

As camp drew to a close, the staff discussed and decided on swimmers who were worthy of awards. Every swimmer deserved a well done pat on the back for their participation in the camp. A final celebration took place with a presentation ceremony of awards.

On the return journey, swimmers talked about their few days away and if we were going next year too?!

The staff took time relaxing having been on the ball from Friday evening. Following our return the swimmers and parents completed evaluation forms, gave feedback and marked the camp out ten.

It was a unanimous 10 out of 10 with many asking, are we going next year too?

Yes it was hard work but it was worth it. We have made memories for our swimmers that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Many thanks to the support of the committee.
