Volunteers

Brighouse Swimming Club is run entirely by volunteers. Without the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, the club would not continue to run.

Our volunteers are members, ex-members, family members, ex-family members, people from the community. Volunteers give up many hours of their personal time, on top of their usual jobs and family commitments, to carry out duties that enable the club to run.

From young volunteers aged 14 to volunteers aged 70+, every minute of their volunteering gives our members, the opportunity to develop and progress with their swimming alongside learning a skill for life.

There are various roles within Brighouse Swimming Club, from Teaching and Safe Guarding to Banking and Party Planning. We need a bank of volunteers that we can rely on to maintain the smooth running and continuity of the club. We pride ourselves on the way we ensure all of our volunteers are DBS checked to keep our volunteers and members safeguarded.

At each swimming session, Calderdale require an independent person to observe the children in the water who would be able to “sound the alarm” in an emergency. We have a rota for this role and try to ensure volunteers observe once a fortnight.

For this role you would be required to:-

• Complete a Club Membership Form
• Reading of the Club’s Normal Operating Plan (NOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) together with other policies
• A tour/briefing by a Designated Manager at the Pool (no more than one hour)
• Complete a DBS check
• Attend a Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop every 3 years (3 hour course)
